Book Gives Insight into British Legal System.home Retford Times 11th November 2004 A book written by a local author delving into injustice in the British legal system is set to be launched at a high profile event in London today. Judge for Yourself is L A Naylor's debut book. Guest speakers at the special launch event on Fleet Street include Paddy Joe Hill of the Birmingham 6 and Michael Mansfield QC. Miss Naylor will be signing copies of the book in Retford in December. The book documents and explores the large number of miscarriages of justice in the British legal system. "It took me 3 years of hard research and the number of cases I came across really shocked me," she told the Retford Times. Included are the cases of Paul Blackburn (40 years old) who has been locked up since he was a child; Robert Brown, an innocent man who served 25 years for murder and Satpal Ram, who was imprisoned for 16 years after defending himself during a racist attack. "In my opinion it used to be the case that the working class and people from backgrounds that let's say, were not traditionally British, were mainly the victims of this type of injustice" said Miss Naylor. "But in the past few years it has extended further into the middle classes, like the case of the white solicitor Sally Clark who was wrongly put away for murder - it could happen to anyone," she added. Copies of Judge for Yourself are available in Retford book shops. |
